Frankly Speaking ........Now!
Don't Worry Be Happy!

Jesus was always telling stories that spoke to people’s hearts and opened their eyes of understanding to the truth. The lame walked, the blind saw and the deaf heard as they came in contact with Him. Demons were cast out of those who were bound and held captive, while others were cured of sickness, leprosy and various diseases. Mercy was given to sinners and compassion was shown to the weak, poor and less fortunate ones! Never had love of this magnitude ever been witnessed before. His words and actions, filled with life, were different than the religious leaders of that day. Jesus brought great freedom to those who met Him and still continues to do so today!

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest!” Matt 11:28.

It is no wonder that crowds of people were always pursuing and following Him. No matter where He journeyed, someone always had a need!  At moments, there was constant coming and going that didn’t even allow time to eat.  Day after day…week after week, the demands continued…finally, even Jesus needed rest! In addition, His very own cousin, who had worked so diligently preparing His way, had just been beheaded and now the very same king that ordered the act desired to see Him. It is no wonder that Jesus said, “Come on guys, let’s take a break and get a little rest!” So they got in the boat and headed toward a remote area to be by themselves! Vacation time was finally here.  Soon, there would be time to recharge, renew and relax…something they all needed and deserved!

“You will seek me and find me when you search for me with all your heart!” Jer  29:13

Wouldn’t you know it…someone had seen them departing and the word quickly spread.  Overhearing where they were going, people from every city started running to beat them to their destination! When Jesus and the disciples arrived, He saw the multitude of people searching for Him. Being moved with compassion toward them, He began teaching many things! I would have been moved, also, but I don’t think it would have been with the same motivation and demeanor as Jesus…not when I am going on MY vacation!

“For I know the plans that I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” Jer 29:11.

Evening was drawing near as He continued to teach them and heal those that had need of healing. The disciples finally decided to interrupt, requesting that Jesus send the people into any nearby towns to buy themselves something to eat…but Jesus had a different plan!  He said to the disciples, “You give them something to eat!”  Has Jesus lost his mind? They must have laughed among themselves as they thought of how they were going to accomplish this task. “Even if we go to McCheap’s and purchase from the “value” menu, there is no way we have enough money to feed ALL these people.” Finally, they found five loaves and two small fish.  How were they going to approach Jesus with this news?  “This is so embarrassing…I can’t believe this is all we can come up with!” That is exactly the plan Jesus had in mind!

“And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus!” Phil 4:19.

Jesus had been setting the stage that would demonstrate a lesson for us all. “Give them to me,” He requested. “What are five loaves and two small fish among so many,” they thought!  Obviously, they had forgotten whose disciples they were!  Something miraculous was about to take place and they were soon to be taught a principle of God that none of us should ever forget! “Every need is met when we put it in the hands of Jesus!” All the disciples’ efforts, resources and money did not help them complete what Jesus requested of them.  Five loaves and two small fish = definitely not enough, unless…read on!

“God is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to His power that is at work within us!” Eph 3:20

I believe He purposely allowed them to face a problem too big to solve using their natural resources and strengths. Jesus wanted them to see, “With men this is impossible, but with My Heavenly Father all things are possible!” Taking all they had, He looked up into heaven and offered thanks, blessing the five loaves and two small fish!  He gave them (the new and improved loaves and fish) back to His disciples and they were distributed to the crowd.  Five thousand men, not including the women and children, ate that day and were full!  Did you get that?  These people didn’t just nibble on a bread crumb and a pinch of fish…they ate enough to be full!  A miracle had taken place and twelve baskets of leftovers were collected after they were finished eating, so nothing would be wasted.  Jesus is not limited by our rules of multiplication, addition and thinking. Five loaves and two small fish in the hands of Jesus = more than enough!

“Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you!” 1 Peter 5:7.

Hopefully, you are motivated to take the problems that are too big for you to handle and put them into the hands of Jesus, choosing not to worry anymore! Worry never accomplishes anything, unless you count a sick stomach and a headache! Corrie ten Boom shares her view, “Worry is like a rocking chair…it keeps you moving, but doesn’t get you anywhere!” We feel like we are doing something when we worry, but let’s do those things that will bring answers and change to our situation!

“Do not be anxious or worry about anything, but in every situation make your requests known unto Him, through prayer and petition…and you will receive peace from God that passes all understanding!” Phil 4:6-7.

I believe this peace is a “gift” from God confirming He’s taking care of what we requested.  It’s the result of taking something that is not within our power to solve and giving it to the One who can. There is nothing too hard for Him and our faith and trust in that fact allows us to continue to “rest” in that peace!  We can all testify to His faithfulness in our lives. Although His timing does not always match our expectations, He has never let us down. He is always present to help us in times of need and trouble. He loves you!  Go ahead…give it up to Jesus! Don’t worry anymore, “Be Happy!”

Believing the best in you,

Frank Withers
