Frankly Speaking ........Now!
Hearing the Right Voice

Being in the desert now, it hasn’t taken me long to realize that if I want to go outside and  not worry about my 24 hour deodorant wearing off, I better do it early.  This morning, the weather was cooperating by staying cool for longer than usual.  I was able to enjoy some quiet time with one of my friends on the outside patio.   It was awesome to be able to share what God was saying to each of us and finish by praying together.  I wish I could tell you that I stayed in the spiritual zone, but,  right at the point of really good prayer, a loud helicopter flew overhead, drowning out my heartfelt words of expression to God.

My friend really needed to hear what I was praying this morning…..which shows me that I needed to hear it more!  Finally, about the time it was nearly out of range, a jet zooms into our “quiet zone”.  Now, the floodgates of distraction have opened.  “Ok, why is the garbage truck showing up later than usual?”  “What is the neighbor doing in the backyard so early in the morning?  What are they doing?”  “I have never heard a bird chirp so loudly in all my life!” My peace and tranquility have been disturbed….my focus interrupted.  Where did God go?

I know that you can relate. Sometimes God seems so far away.  Why doesn’t He hear me?  Where was He when I needed Him the most?  Read on…. It is so hard to get away from all the voices and distractions competing for our attention, but it is something that we must do to hear God speak.  It is expedient that we recognize His voice.  There is a need for new direction, and He desires to release plans and  strategies that will help us navigate the unfamiliar areas we find ourselves.  These times require us being able to make God led decisions and choices so that we may enjoy and obtain the best  God has planned for our lives.

You will find in Exodus 33:7-11, Moses took a tent and placed it outside the camp, far away from the distractions and  busyness within.  Everyone that sought the Lord went there.  It was there, the tent of meeting,  that God would speak with Moses face to face...as a man speaks to his friend!   Wow, what an awesome hope for us…..that everyone of us can have a two-way conversation with God.  We can talk to him as a friend and expect to hear back from Him.  He desires a relationship with us.  He knows us by name.  He wants to meet us where we are!

I really believe that this is a pattern for us today.   I also like the word “everyone.”  It is not exclusive…..  So, maybe it is time for us to find that place that we can spend some alone time….some quality time…..some time without distractions. Let’s think!  Why are we not hearing God’s voice in the way that we need to?  Maybe we  need to schedule a place and time to meet with God.  It could be that we are doing all the talking and need to spend more time waiting and listening for Him to speak.  No matter the reason… just start somewhere and keep doing it...expectantly!

Even Jesus needed time alone with His Father.  In Mark 1:35, we find his example: In the morning, rising up a great while before daylight, he went out and departed into a solitary place; and there he prayed.   Why did he need to pray, after all he is the son of God?  Well, I know that if he needed to, I definitely need to more!!  Jesus said in John 5:19 that He could do nothing on his own.  He could only do what he heard and saw the Father do.   Where did he find that out?   He found it out in prayer …..time spent in communing with his Father…..watching, listening and learning.  Think of all that Jesus did. I believe it was because he took time to write in his “day-planner”  the things revealed in prayer….then he just did the things that were written.  God wants to give us visions, goals and dreams….along with the plans and directions to get there.  Why do we keep trying to do everything in our own power?   God strengthens us to do all things and supplies all our needs according to all His resources.

Yeah, but that was for Moses and Jesus.  Personally, I believe it is for everyone.  Stressing the point in John 10:27, Jesus says, “My sheep hear my voice.  They listen to me.  They know me and follow me.”  When we understand and do whatever He says unto us, stuff starts happening.  James  4:2 states, that we do not have because we do not ask.  So, we need to start asking so that we will start receiving!  My daughter or son can ask me for almost anything…if it is in my power to give it and it will not harm them, it is theirs.  How much more will our Heavenly Father give us good things when we ask.   He is the original giver of good gifts.  He is not stingy.  He gives super abundantly and keeps giving until it overflows. We cannot contain all of the blessings that our Heavenly Father has in store for  us.  Don’t you think it makes sense to include Him in our lives in a greater way than we have allowed so far?  There is nothing too difficult for Him.  All things are possible to those who will believe!

There are so many more verses on prayer that may be remembered.  Hopefully, they will continue to create a desire to "make room” in our busy lives for a relationship with our Heavenly Father.  First, it is important to find a place far away from all the distractions and interruptions.  Second, it is necessary to set aside time that has purpose and intent  to “talk” to our Father. Thirdly, let’s  become friends with Him and learn that we can trust Him with everything!  It is easier to start doing these things when we keep in mind that we
can hear His voice and He does desire for us to hear His voice.  He is more concerned that we openly share our heart with Him than in trying to impress Him with formalities or quantity of words (Be yourself).  He wants to hear about the things that concern us.  He delights in us and rejoices over us.  Like any good relationship, it will require an investment of time and energy.  Anything worth having will “cost” us something.  We will make time for the things we value and find important.

So, in closing, I hope that you will find new motivation and see the need to set up your “tent of meeting” and  find your “solitary” place.  Begin wherever you are and begin however you can…but, please, just begin….I believe you will like your “new” friend…..or perhaps you will enjoy the “reunion” with an old friend.  Hopefully, you will continue to strengthen and deepen your relationship in new found ways. In times like these, we need all the help we can get and He has had infinite years of experience…Let’s taste and see that the Lord is good!  He longs to answer your prayers.  He cares about every detail of your life.  May He continue to do exceedingly, abundantly above all that you ask or think He will do!  Walk in all of the blessings that He has for you.  Begin today!

Believing the best in you……
